In a bid to boost reputable international scientific
publications, the Graduate School of Universitas Gajayana (UNIGA) Malang
successfully hosted a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) Workshop. The academic
event took place on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the UNIGA Malang Postgraduate
Hall.
To accommodate high enthusiasm, the workshop was conducted
in a hybrid format, combining online participation with an in-person session at
the venue. A total of 100 participants—comprising faculty members, researchers,
and postgraduate students—joined the event.
The workshop featured academic expert and practitioner
Fachrudin Pakaja, M.T., as the keynote speaker. In his presentation, Fachrudin
comprehensively explained the strategic importance of the Systematic Literature
Review (SLR) methodology in contemporary research. He asserted that an SLR is
not merely a summary of existing readings, but a structured, transparent, and
replicable research method designed to address specific research questions.
"The SLR methodology holds immense potential for
acceptance in reputable international journals such as Scopus, provided it is
executed with rigorous protocols and the selection of appropriate literature
databases," Fachrudin stated before both the in-person and virtual
audiences.
The core session focused specifically on dissecting one of
the greatest hurdles for researchers: identifying and strengthening research
novelty. Fachrudin emphasized that many SLR-based articles are rejected by
Scopus reviewers because they present purely descriptive data without offering
new directions for their respective fields.
The speaker shared tactical tips and tricks on leveraging
the SLR method as an analytical tool to map research gaps and establish robust
novelty:
Accurate Research Gap Identification: Utilizing SLR to spot
saturated research trends and identify perspectives or variables previously
overlooked by past researchers.
Rigorous Article Selection: Ensuring selected articles are
strictly relevant so that data synthesis yields new theories or conceptual
frameworks.
Critical Analysis Presentation: Delivering critical analysis
that demonstrates tangible contributions to scientific advancement, rather than
merely displaying quantitative charts or annual publication volumes.
"Scopus looks for articles that provide new directions
for future research. Through a proper SLR, we can demonstrate in black and
white exactly where our research novelty stands among thousands of existing
global studies," Fachrudin explained.
Despite partial online attendance, interaction remained
highly dynamic, particularly during the article draft review session. The
management of UNIGA Malang's Graduate School hopes that this focus on
strengthening novelty will drive a significant leap in the quality of
scientific papers produced by the UNIGA Malang academic community, enabling
them to compete globally.
Following the success of this event, Universitas Gajayana
Malang continues to demonstrate its commitment as a higher education
institution actively driving research commercialization and enhancing its
academic reputation on the international stage.
